Muharram Festival in Lucknow

Lucknow has been famous for its Muharram celebration since the time of the Nawabs. This festival starts at the 1st day of Muharram and lasts for 10 days until 10th of Muharram. Muharram is the first month of Islamic calendar. Due to the majority population of the city belonging to the Shia Muslim community, almost every Muslim festival is celebrated here with great enthusiasm.

Lucknow Festival

Lucknow Mahotsav is a major event celebrated in the months of November/December. This festival celebrates Lucknow’s living culture, which provides an insight into the old, cultured, atmosphere of the city with the events like plays, music and dance recitals, kite flying and Tonga races, which showcase the rich culture of the city. The 15-day festival, organized jointly by UP Tourism and Lucknow District Administration, will, this time, also have stalls by the craftsmen of other states presenting a composite culture of the entire country. Besides providing a platform for the local talents, the festival will also have programmes by well-known personalities including Shovana Narayan, the Vadali brothers, Shubha Mudgal, Hansraj Hans, Pandit Jasraj, Hema Sardesai and Sapna Awasthi.
Last but not the least, the local handicrafts of Lucknow are also on display at the festival.
